BLOG

The year was 2010 when I first discovered Martin Rooney. I was attending a Perform Better conference where I would also meet Todd Durkin for the first time. I had never seen world class presenters like Todd and Martin. They seemed like twins with the amazing amounts of energy that they imparted to their audiences.

More importantly Martin and Todd both had figured out what it meant to be a great coach and they were both teaching on it. I knew right then and there that these two men were going to be instrumental in my growth and later they became instrumental in the growth of Journey Fitness.

Over the years I have attended many of Martin's presentations, read his books, participated in his mentorships, taken his Training for Warriors certification and completed his Coaching for Greatness courses.

And not just me, I have also had many of the key people on our Journey TEAM go through the same curriculum. Martin is the reason we yell "Last Set Best Set" at Journey. Many of his quotes about caring for the people you work with are in the materials that I give to new hires. Our coaches know that if they are going to a conference that many sessions are optional but a Todd Durkin or Martin Rooney session is mandatory.

I share all this because I can't thank Martin Rooney enough for what he has meant to me and the TEAM at Journey Fitness. It was a true honor to have him on The Overcomer's Podcast.

I am confident that you are going to love learning from him the same way that I do.

In this episode you are going to learn

  • How to create culture.

  • The benefits of the pandemic

  • How to become a World Leader

  • Who is your biggest teacher

  • How to protect your mindset

And so much more...

My favorite part of the episode is where Martin gives the tough love as he reminds us that a problem with our company, the people we lead or even our family could really be a problem with ourselves. If you are not leading yourself well then you won't be able to lead anyone else well. We sometimes wonder why people are not getting along or going along with us but when you take a minute for self examination we can ask how are we getting along with ourselves and are we living our life in such a way that someone would want to come along for the ride. That is leadership.

Please also share today’s episode with your friends, co-workers, and family on your social media.

38:28 - 40:47

My translation of this clip is "A leader of one or a leader of many.... If you can't lead one then you can't lead any." This means before you can lead anyone else you have to lead yourself. Martin Rooney is serving up some tough love as he explains how the problem with your business or the people you are leading is sometimes in truth a problem with leading yourself.
