BLOG

It's almost Memorial Day which is a time to honor our Veterans and just in time for Memorial Day we wanted to honor Sarah Apgar and a soldier named Nathan who she lost in Iraq while under her command. Sarah is an Iraq War Veteran, All-American Collegiate Athlete, Fitness Professional, former Volunteer Firefighter, and mom of 2 little girls.

Most relevant to our fitness enthusiast is that she is the inventor of those FitFighter hoses that you use at Journey. Sarah has been on Shark Tank twice for that invention . She originally invented this product as a way to help train Firefighters and then she began her FitFighter company as a way to honor those who have lost their lives in service to others.

Sarah regularly donates proceeds from her company to Tunnels to Towers.

You are going to love this episode with Sarah Apgar. She shares about her challenges as a soldier, a mother, an inventor and a business owner.

My favorite part of the episode is where Sarah shares how her invention came to be. Ultimately what I learned is that her invention was born from curiosity, a passion for helping others and

being ambitious enough to do something with her curiosity and passion.

MORE ON THE EPISODE

5:46 - 7:22 - Sarah shares about her deployment in Iraq and losing a soldier named Nathan who was under her command. She says that the FitFighter company that she started is a tribute to him.

8:18 - 10:12 - Sarah shares how when she was launching FitFighter she decided that she wanted to have a tie back to supporting service members and their families. She chose very early on to support Tunnel to Towers which was formed in honor of Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001.

19:58 - 20:54 - Sarah shares that one of the challenges in life is that everything happens through Social Media which gives people false perceptions and her response to that is that she encourages her company to be Extra Human.

25:38 - 27:40 - Such an amazing story! In this clip Sarah shares the process of how the FitFighter hose came to be. It was born from her creativity as a coach just trying to have the firefighters train by mimicking tools and movements. If you've ever wondered how inventions happen, you have to listen to this.

39:14 - 39:54 - Great encouragement here from Sarah Apgar to be curious. It breeds connection and your own creativity. Curiosity gets your heart engaged.
