S7:Episode 2 - Jen Maxfield - More After the Break

We have something a little different for you on this episode of the Overcomer’s Podcast. We are talking with Emmy-award winning journalist, Jen Maxfield. She is the author of “More after the Break”. This book takes readers on a dramatic ride-along in the TV news live truck. Jen writes about everything from the moment she gets the call to head to breaking news, to arriving at chaotic scenes, to knocking on doors of families who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Jen introduces readers to unforgettable people who are Overcomers that inspire us with their hopefulness, even when confronting life’s greatest heartbreaks.

When putting this book together, Jen had to overcome some things like fear of the unknown and fear of possible rejection because she wasn’t sure what she was going to get when contacting these families years or even sometimes decades after the original stories aired. “Did they regret speaking with me at the news scene? or Would I need to apologize?” She definitely had some apprehension, but felt honored that these families chose to trust her in telling their story many years later.

In her book, Jen shares what these people learned from the benefit of hindsight. The theme of the book is the triumph of the human spirit. These are people who overcame certain things and see the beauty in what they are now doing. Jen says that she hopes that her readers enjoy the book as much as she did doing the research for it. We can learn from these people in the way that they triumphed and that can give us hope.
